Basketball Ireland to light up National Basketball Arena in show of solidarity with Ukraine

Basketball Ireland is lighting up the outside of the National Basketball Arena in blue and yellow for National League finals weekend, in a show of solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

Basketball Ireland will display the national colours of Ukraine onto the side of the National Basketball Arena from Friday night until Sunday night.

Basketball Ireland CEO John Feehan, who has already sent a letter of support to the Basketball Federation of Ukraine. said: “Basketball Ireland and the Irish basketball community are abhorred by what is happening in Ukraine and we have seen multiple initiatives by our clubs around the country to raise money for those affected by the war in Ukraine. The lighting up of the National Basketball Arena is another symbolic gesture to reinforce that Ukraine is very much in our thoughts. The Ukrainian national flag will be proudly flying inside the National Basketball Arena throughout our National League finals weekend too. Earlier this month FIBA barred Russian participation in FIBA Europe competitions, something which Basketball Ireland wholeheartedly supports, as those involved in basketball worldwide continue to unite in the condemnation of what is happening in Ukraine.”

A bucket collection will also take place over the National League finals weekend, with all proceeds going directly to the Irish Red Cross.
