Preview: SETU Waterford Wildcats and FloMAX Liffey Celtics look to maintain good starts

It’s last year’s Women’s Super League finalists versus the National Cup champions, as SETU Waterford Wildcats host Gurranabraher Credit Union Burnell. Wildcats have already eliminated Brunell from the Paudie O’Connor National Cup and are one of the in-form teams, winning five straight in the league since their opening round defeat at defending champions Killester.

SETU Waterford Wildcats head coach Jillian Hayes stated: “I’m hoping to hold our position in the league table this weekend, Brunell will be on form, coming off a great win last weekend (against Trinity Meteors). So we are expecting a good battle and hopefully see an improvement on the defensive end from us.”

FloMAX Liffey Celtics are also on a 5-1 record and host winless University of Galway Mystics. The Address UCC Glanmire and Killester are both on 4-2, Mark Scannell’s side are away at Midland Park Portlaoise Panthers on Friday, while it’s a trip to Catalyst Fr. Mathews for Killester on Saturday. Trinity Meteors host Utility Trust St. Paul’s, with both sides seeking their third league wins of the season.

McEvoy’s Cavan Eagles (4-0) will put their unbeaten record in Women’s Division One on the line when they travel to Templeogue. Hot on their heels are iSecure Swords Thunder (4-1), who have a Dublin derby at Abbey Seal Dublin Lions (3-2) .

iSecure Swords Thunder head coach, Paul Carr, said: “We are looking forward to our first away game of the season against a tough Lions team. It's another chance to test ourselves against a really good team. The league is so strong this year, there are no easy matches and we expect a tough battle against Lions this weekend, where either team could win.
