A big 1st half was the difference between Coláiste Chiaráin and Muckross Park College in an exciting opening game today, as they battled for a spot in the Pinergy All-Ireland U16A Girls Schools Cup Final. Leading 34 – 19 at halftime, Coláiste Chiaráin had to withstand a great second half comeback from Muckross Park College. Despite winning the 3rd and 4th quarters in the game, Muckross Park College were unable to reel in the eventual winners. Top Scorers for Coláiste Chiaráin were Clara Boyce (18 points), Kelly Bracken (13 points) and Sarah Bradley (12 points). Top scorers for Muckross Park College were Riodhna McGrath (14 points), Kira Lynch (12 points) and Anna O’ Sullivan (6 points).
In the second game of the day, the Pinergy All-Ireland U16B Girls Schools Cup Semi-Final, Our Lady & St. Patrick's College Knock (OLSPK) proved too strong for a good St. Andrews team in the Pinergy U16B Girls Schools Cup Semi-Final. Leading at halftime on a score of 31-11, OLPSK never looked like losing, despite a very strong showing from St. Andrews in the second half. Meabh Napier was excellent for OLPSK throughout the game, hitting a massive 26 points.
In the last game of the day, the Pinergy All-Ireland U19A Girls Schools Cup Semi-Final, both Loreto Dalkey and Loreto Kilkenny served up a treat as they battled from the off, with the game in the balance right up to the final minutes. It was Loreto Dalkey who prevailed on a score line of 58-46 in the end. The game was a great advertisement for girls basketball, with Giulia Annerlini top scoring for Loreto Dalkey on 19 points, while Lucy Coogan hit 24 points for Loreto Kilkenny.
