All you need to know: FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup 2025

This Friday Ireland's 3x3 men's basketball team will take to the floor at FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup for the very first time. Here's everything you'll need to know to follow the team in their opening two group games and beyond.

What is FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup?

The FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup is the European Championships of basketball's 3x3 format. It brings together 12 teams who qualify for the tournament either through their FIBA World Ranking or through qualifying events throughout the year.

This will be the 10th edition of the competition, taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark from Friday, September 5th to Sunday, September 7th.

If you are new to 3x3 basketball it's a fast-paced game played on a half-court, three players per team, with a 12 second-shot clock for 10 minutes. The winning team is the first to 21-points or the team with the most points when the 10 minute period is up.

Teams are split into four groups of three for two round robin games, with the top two in each group progressing to the quarter-final stage.

You can find the competition portal here.

Who is competing?

Serbia, France, Netherlands, Latvia, Germany, Lithuania, Austria, Italy, Ireland, Switzerland, Hungary, Denmark.

Five of these teams - Serbia, France, Netherlands, Latvia and Lithuania took part in the Paris Olympics in 2024.

How did Ireland Qualify?

We qualified for FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup by winning an event in Kosovo in June. We advanced to the semi-finals after losing only one game in the pool phase - 21-19 against Cyprus.

A 21-12 win over the hosts Kosovo secured us a spot in the final where we met Cyrpus once more - this time coming out the right side of a 21-19 success to secure out spot in Copenhagen and make history for the Irish men's 3x3 programme.

Jordan Blount and Matt Treacy combined for 12-points on the night to help Ireland to the win - you can look back at that game here.

Who is in Ireland's Group?

Ireland have been drawn in Pool C alongside the last two Olympic champions - Latvia and Netherlands. Our first game comes against Latvia at 10:00am on Friday, followed by a meeting with the Netherlands at 15:45 on the same day.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals.

  • Friday, September 5th - Ireland v Latvia, 10:00
  • Friday, September 5th - Ireland v Netherlands, 15:45

Ireland Squad

Domino's Men's Super League winning head coach with Griffith College Éanna Darren McGovern takes charge of the side, continuing on his good work from securing qualification in Kosovo earlier this summer.

There's a different look to the team of four that win the FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup qualification event in Prishtina in June, with a number of players unavailable for selection.

McGovern's roster remains packed with international experience - Jordan Blount, John Carroll, Matt Treacy, Sean Jenkins and Cian Heaphy have been chosen in the initial squad. Blount and Treacy were key figures in Prishtina, both making key contributions in the final win over Cyprus.

You can learn more about all our squad here.

Where can I watch?

Ireland's group games will be broadcast live on the TG4 Player on Friday here and will also be available on FIBA's YouTube Channel here.
