A Coaching Licence is compulsory for any coach wishing to coach a team in Basketball Ireland Competitions of any level. Your licence will appear as a "Licenced Coach" badge on your Helpside profile and it is recommended you take a screenshot or have a printout of this page displaying your Badge in order to produce it as required at the various Basketball Ireland Competitions you may be involved in.
Information on the application process is below, and you can click here to visit Helpside to submit your application.
Once you are logged into Helpside look for the "Coach Licencing" option on the main menu at the top of the page.
Check that you have completed the following in order to be eligible for a Coaching Licence:
Register with Basketball Ireland as a coach through the online registration system for technical members and pay the technical registration fee. (BI Registration Guide)
Complete the online coaching licence application form on Helpside in full once you have completed Steps 1 and 2.
Please make sure you attach any requested information as incomplete forms will not be processed.
Basketball Ireland will then process your Coaching Licence application and you will receive a "Licenced Coach" badge on your Helpside Profile (During busy times this could take up to 21 days).
It's recommended you take a screenshot or have a printout of your Helpside profile page displaying your Licenced Coach Badge in order to produce it at the various Basketball Ireland Competitions you may be involved in.
A Basketball Ireland Coaching Licence will be the only form of proof accepted to show that as a coach, you are qualified, registered and Garda vetted/AccessNI certified and proof of completing a minimum of a Child Safeguarding 1 Course, and/or Sport Ireland's Safeguarding refresher course.
No coach will be able to take part in any Basketball Ireland competitions without holding a Coaching Licence and this will be strictly enforced.
Check and complete the required amount of Continued Professional Development (CPD) over the period outlined in order to renew your licence ahead of the licence expiration date. You can find this information on your CPD Dashboard within Helpside. All Licences will expire at the end of the 2024/25 Season and from the 2025/26 season every licence issued will be valid for three seasons.
