Basketball Ireland is pleased to announce that Charter Medical is becoming a Team Supporter of the Ireland U18 men's squad ahead of their participation in FIBA Youth EuroBasket, which gets underway on Friday.
Ireland have been drawn in Group A along with Iceland, Great Britain, Poland, Bosnia & Herzegovina, begining with a tie against Great Britain on July 25th. Ireland U18 women's head coach Niall Berry named his final twelve-player squad at the start of May, which included three uncapped players. Two players originally named in the squad miss out through injury - Jack Fitzpatrick and the team's vice-captain Darragh Horkan. They've been replaced by Eoin Potito (Titans BC) and Adam McCarthy (Éanna BC), though Horkan will still travel with the team in a leadership capacity.
Elsewhere, four players make the step straight up from the Ireland U16 squad. Kieran Quinn (Gill St. Bernard's), Mark Burns (Belfast Star), Shareef Elmahi (Dublin Lions) and Nathan Gbinigie (Titans BC) all played vitals roles for that squad, which ultimately finished in 17th place, but lost out some very close games along the way.
Ireland continued their preparations in Bulgaria last weekend, playing three friendlies as they aimed to integrate the new players as quickly as possible.
Basketball Ireland’s Head of Commercial and Brand Gus Lewis said: “Our Team Supporters are proving to be vital for the preparations ouf our underage programmes for FIBA Youth EuroBasket. Charter Medical's commitment to excellence in the clinical space has seemlessly transfered to their support of the team. We are delighted to have them on board and we are looking forward now to Friday's opening game against Great Britain."
