Ireland U16 men's squad reduced to 19 ahead of FIBA Youth EuroBasket

Ireland U16 men's head coach Emer Howard has selected a squad of 19 to continue with the next phase of FIBA Youth EuroBasket preparation. 

Four players have previous experience at international level at U16 - Declan Ehigie Fryderyk Klimas, Sean Patterson and Karl Walsh represented Ireland at the Four Nations in 2024, with the first three mentioned earning a spot on the FIBA Youth EuroBasket roster. 

Coach Howard has chosen representatives from 12 clubs in six counties across all four provinces. Players are included from Antrim, Dublin, Sligo, Laois, Limerick and Tipperary. Five overseas players have made the cut, three from the USA, one in Germany and one based in Spain. 

Speaking on her squad, head coach Emer Howard said: 

“We are really excited with the squad that we have selected for the next phase of preparation for FIBA Youth EuroBasket 2025. With a mixture of experience and new energy, we feel that we are building something special and can’t wait to continue working with them. The selection process is never easy, and we have genuinely left behind a lot of talent this year. We hope that they all stay locked in on their goal of representing Ireland, and I look forward to seeing them all continue to flourish as players and people.”
