Kerry school completes sweep at U14 'A' All-Ireland Schools Cup Finals

It was a famous day for Kerry schools basketball at the National Basketball Arena on Wednesday afternoon, as Castleisland Community College picked up both the U14 'A' Boys and U14 'A' Girls All-Ireland Schools Cup crowns.

Their U14 'A' girls side had to survive down the stretch against a very strong Malahide Community School outfit, a strong third quarter in which they outscored their opponents 10-4 proved the difference. Despite Malahide rallying in the final five minutes, through points from Olivia Morris, Kate Fitzpatrick and Eva Cleland - it was Castleisland who ran out 33-30 winners at the final buzzer. Danielle Sheahan and Brid McCarthy topped the boxscore for their team with 12 and 11 points respectively in the game.

It was a more convincing performance in the U14 'A' boys final, as the sharpshooters from Kerry raced in to a 32-6 lead at the interval. Olly O'Shea and Connie O'Connor leading the way with 10 and nine points during that stretch. Mungret Community College kept fighting throughout the second half, Ahmed Avdelrahman, Matas Maciulaitis, Harry Nealon and Evan O'Meara all contributing for them on the scoreboard, but they had to make do with a silver medal when all was said and done.
