Irish teams excel at FIBA Masters Open

The surge of success for the Basketball Ireland Masters programme is continuing at the FIBA Masters Open in Greece this week. As the competition enters the elimination rounds, three teams, the M40, F45 and M50 have all advanced to the quarter-finals, or in the case of the F45 team, the final four.  

The F40, M45 and M60 are set to join them in the latter stages following their final group game on July 9th, while our F60 currently sit in 5th place in their group with a 1-2 record.

Ireland F45 will have to beat Mexico for a second time if they're going to reach the decider against Italia Golden Players. Catherine Ashe and Agnieszka Lukasiewicz stole the show in their previous meeting by combining for 26 points, as Ireland ran out 58-43 winners. Ireland M40 are unbeaten in their two group games, picking up wins over Spanish and Greek sides. They face further Greek opposition in the shape of Korinthians in the last eight. A more uphill task faces our M50 programme in the quarter-finals. Entering the round with a 1-2 record, they face the Italian Golden Players Giove, who have won their last two games going into the knockout rounds.
