Basketball Ireland is delighted to announce that TG4 will broadcast this week’s FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup Finals, which take place in Copenhagen. Ireland will play in the men's tournament for first time, having won their qualifying tournament in June, defeating Cyprus in the final.
Ireland face the last two FIBA 3x3 Olympic champions – Latvia and Netherlands – in their two pool games, which take place on Friday at 10.30am and 3.45pm, both of which will be live on the TG4 Player and App.
The five-man extended squad - Matt Treacy, Jordan Blount, John Carroll, Sean Jenkins andCian Heaphy - are currently in Serbia at a training camp ahead of the finals, with head coach Darren McGovern paring that down to four players for the tournament itself.

Ireland 3x3 men’s head coach, Darren McGovern, said: “The guys have been working hard since we arrived at our training camp in Serbia last Friday, along with several sessions back in Ireland. Choosing the final four to travel to Copenhagen will be a difficult one, but whoever we pick will be ready to give their all against really tough opposition. We’re all looking forward to representing Ireland at the highest level in Europe.”
Basketball Ireland CEO, John Feehan, added: “We’re really excited to see our Ireland men’s 3x3 team get on the court on Friday against the cream of FIBA 3x3 crop. It’s a historic achievement to be playing in this tournament and facing the last two 3x3 Olympic champions shows the calibre of opposition we are mixing with. Having the games broadcast on TG4 Player and App is a huge boost for the squad and the sport in general, with 3x3 growing at a rapid pace in Ireland. It continues our long-running partnership with TG4, the station havingrecently broadcast our JYSK Summer Series friendly games against Norway in July.”
TG4 Head of Sport, Rónán O’Coisdealbha, stated: “We’re delighted to be showcasing the Ireland men’s 3x3 team at the FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup finals. The team have done brilliantly to reach the finals, playing an exciting brand of basketball in the qualifying tournament. We’re looking forward to bringing this tournament and 3x3 to a wider audience in Ireland, alsobroadcasting Sunday’s men’s quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
