Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell defeat Killester 65- 55 to secure final spot in InsureMyVan.ie U20 Women’s National Cup

Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell advanced to the Final of the U20 Women’s National Cup following a 65-55 win against Killester on Sunday – an excellent game was played out at the Gurranabraher Credit Union Arena with notable individual performances from Brunell’s Super League trio Ava Walshe, Rachel Lynch and Rebecca Sexton.

In the first quarter, Killester opened up an early 19-10 advantage, Sarah Courtney scored the final basket of the quarter which left the score 27-20 in Killester’s favour.

Ava Walshe’s 3-point jump shot midway through the 2nd quarter put Brunell in the lead by two points, 30-28, and Brunell would lead 35-33 at the end of the quarter. 

A three-pointer from Eleanor Fitzimons at the beginning of the third quarter saw Killester move back in front, 37-36, but Rebecca Sexton (5) and Ava Walshe (6) helped fire Brunell back in front to 49-46.  

Excellent game management towards the end of the fourth quarter saw ensured that Brunell would secure a 65-55 win.
