Domino's Women's Super League Week Three Preview

Domino's Women's Super League leaders SETU Waterford Wildcats take on FloMAX Liffey Celtics in top of the table clash. The unbeaten FloMAX Liffey Celtics head coach Hillary Netsiyanwa believes their opponents and league leaders SETU Waterford Wildcats have played ‘top-class basketball’, with the two sides contesting in a top of the table clash this weekend.

Domino’s Women’s Super League table toppers SETU Waterford WIldcats take on the unbeaten FloMAX Liffey Celtics at Mercy College this weekend, as very little separates the sides before round three commences.

Defending Domino’s Women’s Super League champions Trinity Meteors will contest against VSC Cavan Eagles at Coláiste Íosagáin, as both teams enter week three with a 1-1 record. The reigning Domino’s WSL National Cup champions Killester will venture south to Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell in the only Sunday fixture, and newly promoted Limerick Celtics host Midlands Park Portlaoise Panthers in a bottom of the table contest.

Limerick Celtics v Midlands Park Portlaoise Panthers, Saturday 15:00

Limerick Celtics and Midlands Park Portlaoise Panthers sit ninth and tenth in the league respectively, as both teams are yet to pick up a win this season. The newly promoted Limerick Celtics travelled to FloMAX Liffey Celtics in week one, where they came away with a 77-63 loss before taking on Brunell in week two where they came out the wrong side of an 88-70 scoreline.

Portlaoise Panthers have started the season with a 22-point loss to VSC Cavan Eagles and a 26-point loss to Career Decision’s UCC Glanmire; however, head coach Ger Jago believes their first win isn’t too far way.

“Looking at the opening two games of the season, I feel that we're still settling in and still getting to know each other as a team and coaching staff. We are improving game on game despite scorelines and we're taking a lot of positives away from what we've done defensively and offensively,” said Jago. “I feel that the squad are growing and getting closer, and I feel that our first win isn't too far away just based on the opening two games and the improvements that we've made. Limerick Celtics obviously have the bounce from coming up from Division One which always gives you a bit of energy. They’re a young squad with good Irish players in the Buckley’s (Amy and Laura) and Sabhbh Edwards Murphy. I feel that if we can shut down their shooters, it will really help us. I feel like it's going to be a very close game this weekend just based on those two squads.”

SETU Waterford Wildcats v FloMAX Liffey Celtics, Saturday 17:30

SETU Waterford Wildcats sit atop of the Domino’s Women’s Super League following their decisive wins against Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell and reigning Domino’s WSL National Cup champions Killester. Irish international Sarah Hickey has already amounted 61 points in the league for Jillian Hayes’ team, making her the highest scorer for the season so far.

FloMAX Liffey Celtics welcomed Limerick Celtics back to the league in their opening win of the season, before taking down VSC Cavan Eagles in round two. Brooke Kane was flying for Liffey Celtics last weekend, as she put up 30 points and went 4/5 from beyond the arc.

“It being so early in the season we aren't taking too much into what has happened so far as no form has been set yet. It is of course a brighter start than last season, but we all have a season together under our belts now, so there are less unknowns,” said FloMAX Liffey Celtics head coach Hillary Netsiyanwa. “Aine (O’Connor), Brooke (Kane), Clara (Boyce), Katie (Williamson) and Sorcha (Tiernan) coming back has helped with continuity of course and the addition of Lynn Tunnah, Ciara Brogan, Erin Boyce and Rachel Doyle has been a great help. That being said, Waterford are a squad that have played top class basketball over the years with Jillian Hayes producing a team that performs no matter who they have available, so the performance last weekend was no surprise. Sarah (Hickey) has added another level to her game this summer along with them having three solid pros in Brooklyn (Gray), Kaitlyn (Flanagan) and Sanija (Brikmane). They have Kate (Hickey), Orla (Dullaghan) and Helena (Rohan) who do the job that's needed so it will be a challenging fixture for us in Mercy this weekend but something we are looking forward to”

Trinity Meteors v VSC Cavan Eagles, Saturday 17:30

Defending Domino’s Women’s Super League champions Trinity Meteors will welcome VSC Cavan Eagles to Dublin this weekend, as both teams look to get back on the horse following round two losses. Trinity Meteors opened their 2025/26 season with a 65-61 win against Cavan Eagles, before Cavan Eagles claimed an 83-61 win in the return fixture.

Trinity Meteors secured a 65-63 win in the opening contest this season against Career Decisions UCC Glanmire, but their perfect start was halted by James Fleming’s Utility Trust St. Paul’s in week two. Anthony Dodson’s summer signing Zayn Urbaniak-Dornstauder has been a strong addition to the panel, racking up 27 points, 22 rebounds and four blocks in the opening fixtures, with Irish internationals Aisling Moran and Hazel Finn providing the National League experience.

VSC Cavan Eagles kick-started their season with a 22-point win against Midlands Park Portlaoise Panthers to put them top of the tables, only for FloMAX Liffey Celtics to drop them to fifth in week two. Darrione Rogers and Kilah Freelon have adapted to the league in record time, scoring 53 and 52 points respectively in the opening games.

Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell v Killester, Sunday 14:00

The defending Domino’s WSL National Cup champions Killester are yet to get off the mark this year with two defeats against Utility Trust St. Paul’s and SETU Waterford Wildcats. Mark Grennell’s recent signings Isabellah Middleton and Kennedy Townsend have reached 34 points each, with Townsend already at 26 rebounds and 11 assists. In Killester's recent encounter with SETU Waterford Wildcats, the Dublin side took a two-point lead early into the first quarter; however, SETU Waterford Wildcats bounced back and stayed in front for the remaining 38 minutes.

Keith Daly’s Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell have positioned themselves in sixth place, following an opening day loss to SETU Waterford Wildcats and a week two win over Limerick Celtics. Last week’s Munster derby saw Brunell take an 18-9 lead after the first ten minutes, but it was the third quarter onslaught that put them in pole position to finish out the game on top. Kayce Vaile has proved herself to be a dangerous player in the post, while Edel Thornton and Alayna Contreras are deadly shooters in Daly’s roster.

Killester picked up two wins against Brunell last year, beating the Cork side 74-61 on the road and winning in 82-78 in overtime in Clontarf.
