Coláiste Na Hinse have been crowned U19 'C' Girls All-Ireland Schools Cup winners after 42-point victory over St. Peter’s Dunboyne. The Bettystown school defeated Dunboyne 68-26 behind the duo of Layla Ryan and Georgia Ryan, who combined for 40 points in a Meath derby.
Coláiste Na Hinse started as they meant to go on, with the first seven minutes having them go on a 14-1 run with Georgia Ryan scoring nine of her 22 in the early run. Scores from Danielle Brezak got St. Peter’s on the board, but Colaiste Na Hinse still managed to carry a 16-point lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter carried more dominance from the Bettysdown school, with Kate Gallagher, captain Layla Ryan and more scores from Georgia Ryan asserting control as they ran into a 37-9 lead late in the half. Georgia and Layle hit 12 of their 20 points in the second period. Lara McGuinness and Danielle Brezak tried everything to get the school from the Station Road but still went in at half-time down 41-14.
As we entered the second half, Colaiste Na Hinse started with another 7-0 run which was halted by a tough finish from Danielle Brezak, which led to Manuela Alfaro, Kate Gallagher, Layla Ryan and Clodagh Harney scoring in another 11-0 push. Nice finishes from Ali Duffy and Lara McGuinness gave Dunboyne a strong finish to the third but by then, Colaiste Na Hinse took a 39-point lead into the final period of play.
The final quarter was the most competitive of the game with both sides struggling to put the ball in the basket. But by then the damage had already been done and the final ten minutes felt more like a procession to the crowning of the Bettystown school as champions. Danielle Brezak was again the leading scorer for Dunboyne as they tried to keep the period as competitive as possible but as the buzzer sounded, the Coláiste Na Hinsen faithful began the celebrations in the National Basketball Arena.
The Bettystown school had three players in double digits with Georgia and Layla Ryan scoring 22 and 18 respectively along with Kate Gallagher adding 12.
