Winless Malahide face two Dublin derbies in one weekend in Domino's Men's Division One

Malahide’s start to the season in Domino’s Men’s Division One has been far from smooth sailing. But with a double gameweek coming up this weekend, there is hope that they can stretch away from the foot of the table with two games against local rivals this weekend.

The Dublin side have the short turnaround as they make the short trip to Templeogue on Friday night. That is then followed up by returning home on Sunday to take on Moy Tolka Rovers on Sunday evening. Another struggling team this season in Team Northwest, who are joint-bottom with Malahide have the exact same matchups with them travelling to Tolka on Saturday and then hosting Templeogue on Sunday as they too, look to get win number one for the season.

On Thursday Titans BC defeated local rivals Maigh Cuilinn 95-84 on Thursday night.  They now travel to league leaders ND Audit Portlaoise Panthers on Saturday, who suffered their first defeat of the season last weekend with a first round exit in the Domino’s MD1 National Cup to Limerick Sport Eagles. On Sunday Panthers travel to Tipp Talons.

Maigh Cuilinn will be looking to bounce back at the Kingfisher on Saturday night when they host the aforementioned Tipp Talons. Maigh Cuilinn currently sit in 11th with a record of 2-5, while Talons have a 2-3 record going into the double gameweek.

There are four teams with a lighter workload of just one game this weekend. And they all happen to be facing each other. Killarney Cougars host Maree, win could see Maree enter the top three in the table, but a win for Killarney would be their second of the season and edge them slightly further away from the bottom of the table. The other game takes us to St. Munchins College in Limerick, as Limerick Sport Eagles, fresh off eliminating the league leaders from the cup, will play SPK Utility Trust Eagles on Sunday. For Eagles, a win would take them to 5-3 and well in the hunt for a title run. For Killarney, a win would see them go positive at 4-3 for the season.

The chasing pack behind Portlaoise is slowly closing in and leading that chase is the 5-1 Drogheda Wolves, who sit in second spot. Drogheda have two matches this weekend that could see them go level with, or even overtake ND Audit Portlaoise Panthers depending how the Panthers fare between Laois and Tipperary. The Wolves kick off their double week with a tough test against fourth-placed Dublin Lions. A win for the Lions however could see them go ahead of Drogheda. Drogheda Wolves also travel to Ulster University on Sunday evening.

Another team with the same fixture list this weekend is Carrick Cruisers. Cruisers alternatively, will have Ulster travel down to Monaghan on Friday and then will travel to Dublin Lions on Sunday. A successful weekend for Carrick could see them enter the race for the top spot, with a potential 6-2 record on the cards if all goes to plan.
