Limerick Sport Huskies power through to Domino’s WD1 National Cup final with 74-45 victory over Moy Tolka Rovers

Limerick Sport Huskies will take on Cleveland Rockets at the National Basketball Arena in two weeks’ time in the Domino's WD1 National Cup final after three 20+ point quarters to cruise past Moy Tolka Rovers, 74-45, at MTU in Cork.

Tolka started the game brightly, taking three separate leads in the opening five minutes of the game. But as the quarter wore on, Huskies got stronger, going on a 15-4 run inside the final five minutes of the first quarter. Hannah Cremin, Shelby Harmeyer and Clara Gomez were all scoring at will as Huskies took a nine-point lead into the second quarter.

In quarter two, it was almost a carbon copy of the first. Both sides were trading scores in the opening minutes, and this time it was Gomez who took over as she scored eight points in a 14-2 run to give Huskies a 20-point gap to bring into the half-time break.

The third quarter was just Limerick dominance; Huskies held Tolka to just five third-quarter points, finishing the quarter with eight unanswered points to give them their largest lead of the game at 36 points. Shelby Harmeyer scored eight of her 17 points in the third, shooting 3-5 from the field, including two threes.

Tolka managed to bounce back in the fourth, with six different players scoring for the Dublin side, including six from Elaine Kenny, who scored a team-high 12 points. The big difference in the fourth quarter for Tolka was the reduction in turnovers. Just one turnover in the final quarter in comparison to 18 in the other three, which was a major cause of Tolka’s struggle, which saw Huskies run the game in transition.

Huskies will be hoping for a repeat of the league fixture between them and Cleveland when they face them in two weeks’ time after a 76-69 triumph in Lisburn back in October.
