The story so far

This game comes following a defeat to Austria on Thursday night, with Mark Keenan’s side losing out on a 92-66 scoreline. Sunday’s game is a sell-out, so the atmosphere will be a good one for the team.

Ireland sit 3rd in Group A with a 2-3 record. The two wins coming against Cyprus in November 2021 and February 2022, while we have lost out twice to Austria and once to Sunday’s opponents.

Taiwo Badmus, who has been Ireland’s leading scorer in the campaign, topped the scoring charts again, adding another 15 to his tally to bring it to 84 in the five qualifiers so far. CJ Fulton also caught the eye on his FIBA EuroBasket debut, with 10 points.

Newly-appointed captain John Carroll will miss the game after picking up an ACL injury. Sean Flood steps in as captain, Adrian O’Sullivan as vice.

There is cause for optimism in the camp with debuts made against Austria. Aidan Harris Igiehon joined up with the squad and contributed, while exciting guard CJ Fulton and Will Hanley, who was part of the FIBA European Championship for Small Countries win in 2021, return to the fold.

Switzerland will be looking to make amends for their surprising result against Cyprus. Going into the game as favourites, they ended up losing Thursday’s game on a 71-63 scoreline to lie on a 3-2 record.

Players to look out for include top scorer against Cyprus, Jonathan Kazadi, who ended up on his average of 17 points, while you can expect Natan Jurkowitz to clean up the rebounds.

To finish second, Ireland must beat Switzerland by 12 points or more. Ireland's fate will then be decided by results from other groups.

You can watch the game live on TG4 on Sunday.
