FIBA Youth EuroBasket preparations take another step forward for Ireland U16WNT this weekend, as they travel to Luxembourg to participate in The Dussman Trophy. It marks the 10th year in succession that Irish basketball has taken part in this important preparation event.
Paul O'Brien's side will face Luxembourg, Switzerland and Portugal over three days this weekend. Swizterland in particular will be an interesting tie for Ireland looking ahead, as the two sides will meet in their final Group A fixture of FIBA Youth EuroBasket in Turkey on August 25th. Portugal and Luxembourg are potential classification round opponents for Ireland, after being drawn in Group B and Group C, respectively.
"We are really excited to be participating in the Dussman again this year," said O'Brien ahead of their opening contest. "We have 11 players who are about to receive their first caps for Ireland and these games will be invaluable for our progression towards FIBA Youth EuroBasket. There is a lot of excitement in the camp and we can't wait to play."
Ireland have been forced into one change in their original squad announced for FIBA Youth EuroBasket on April 30th. Orlaith Bruton unfortunately picked up a torn ACL and faces some time on the sidelines. She has been replaced by Shekinah Djoussa on the roster. The Ongar Chasers forward will be keen to make her mark given the opportunity over the next three days.
