Basketball clubs secure more than €1.2m through Community Sports Capital grants

Basketball Ireland is proud to announce the success of basketball clubs across the country, having secured a total of €1,286,847 in funding through the Sports Capital funding schemes.

This follows the €537,289 secured earlier this year under the Sports Capital Equipment Fund. This significant financial boost will provide crucial resources to improve facilities, purchase new equipment, and support the growth of basketball at all levels throughout Ireland.

The Sports Capital Programme, overseen by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media, is designed to assist sports organisations in developing their infrastructure.

This latest round of funding will enable clubs to enhance their courts, acquire modern training and game equipment, and improve overall operations, creating better opportunities for players of all ages and backgrounds to engage with basketball.

Paul Carr, Grants and Participation Manager at Basketball Ireland, shared his excitement about the achievement:
"We are delighted with the outcome of the Sports Capital funding allocations for our basketball clubs. The €1.29 million secured will be transformative, allowing clubs to invest in much-needed infrastructure and equipment. The dedication of volunteers in local clubs, who worked tirelessly on these grant applications, is truly commendable, and I’m pleased to see their hard work rewarded. This funding reflects the strength of the basketball community in Ireland and the growing professionalism of our clubs in seeking additional resources to support their development. I would also like to thank 2into3 for running informative webinars with clubs, which helped guide their applications, and we plan to hold more webinars to support clubs in the funding drawdown process."

Basketball Ireland remains committed to supporting clubs in every way possible to help them realise their full potential.

Carr added: "This investment comes at a critical time for basketball, as we continue to see increased participation and enthusiasm across the country. I encourage other clubs to follow the example set by these successful applicants and start preparing for future rounds of SportsCapital funding."

Basketball Ireland looks forward to seeing the positive impact this funding will have on the sport and congratulates all the clubs involved for their efforts and success. The organisation also encourages other clubs to seek future grant opportunities to continue driving the growth of basketball in Ireland.
