Basketball Ireland announce Open Talent Identification sessions for three international programmes

In preparation for the forthcoming international season, provisional dates have been set aside for Open Talent Identification sessions for the U14, U15 and U17 Basketball Ireland Academy programmes.

1. Please note that there are no open talent identification sessions for the U16 and U18 national team programmes. These teams are part of the International Player Pathway Programme, which runs on a two year cycle. 
2. U20 talent identification sessions will be announced later in the year, as they will not start before the end of December 2025.

Basketball Ireland Academy - U14 & U15 Programmes

The Basketball Ireland U14 and U15 Academy Open Talent Identification sessions will take place on the following dates across the country.

Each Region/Province will have two talent identification sessions, with the details available at the bottom of the page.

Players should attend both sessions where possible to give coaches the best chance to evaluate them, but it will not be seen as a negative if a player is only able to make one of the two sessions.

• TID 1 - Saturday or Sunday 6/7th of September.
• TID 2 - Saturday or Sunday 20/21st of September.

We aim for there to be no changes some changes are outside of our control so please check the time, day and venue for your sessions in advance of traveling to it.

Basketball Ireland Academy - U17 Programme

These sessions are the first step in the selection process for the Basketball Ireland U17 International Academy, which forms part of the Basketball Ireland High Performance Pathway. Players eligible will have been born in 2009 or later. 

What Are the Sessions?

These Open Talent Identification (TID) sessions are designed to identify players with the potential to play International Basketball at U18 level in season 2026/27. The U17 Development International Academy is the required pathway for players living and playing in Ireland to be selected for the U18 team the following year. 

These are the only open talent identification sessions, so players wishing to be considered should make themselves available.

Who Can Attend? 

• Players born in 2009.
• Irish passport holders or those eligible for one (approval required for non passportholders).
• Must be registered with Basketball Ireland.
• Players of all positions and backgrounds are encouraged to attend.

Registration

The details on how to register for the Open Talent Identification sessions can be found at the bottom of this page.

The first TID sessions will take place on the following dates:

• U17 Girls - Saturday, September 13th, Gormanston Park, Co. Meath
• U17 Boys - Sunday, September 14th, Gormanston Park, Co. Meath.

Following the Gormanston sessions, a group of selected players will be invited to a second Talent Identification Day at UL Arena.

• U17 Boys – Saturday, 28th September 2025 
• U17 Girls – Sunday, 29th September 2025

Cost:

The cost of attending the Talent ID session is €25 per player, payable during the online registration process.
