Basketball Ireland President PJ Reidy has been appointed to FIBA’s Technical Commission, one of the seven permanent Commissions that work in conjunction with the FIBA Executive Committee on a five-year term, 2023 to 2027.
Mr. Reidy will work alongside twelve other members on FIBA’s Technical Commission, with Mr. Ivan Bodrogvary of Bulgaria serving as Chairperson. The remit of the Commission is to be ‘Competent for all matters concerning the interpretation and application of the Official Basketball Rules and the state of the game around the world.’
PJ Reidy became Basketball Ireland’s 25th President in 2020, succeeding Theresa Walsh in the role. He is now in the middle of his second two-year term in the role. Previously Mr. Reidy was ingrained in administration of Schools’ basketball, serving as Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Committee as well as various other roles within the sport in Ireland down through the years.
Former Basketball Ireland CEO Bernard O’Byrne will also take up a role on the FIBA Legal Commission as Vice-President from 2023 to 2027. The Commission will have among its responsibilities – ‘FIBA’s internal regulations and other governance-related matters.’.
The newly elected FIBA Europe Board recently held its first meeting in Ljubljana, chaired by FIBA Europe President Jorge Garbajosa, was attended by FIBA President Hamane Niang, FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis and FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak.
