Andorra overcome San Marino 91-56 in FIBA European Championship for Small Countries

Andorra followed up their opening night 96-81 loss to Ireland, with a 91-56 win over San Marino in the FIBA European Championship for Small Countries.

The Andorran side wasted no time in opening the scoring, with 19-year-old Marti Obiols Puig making a layup after just four seconds. Despite fast-paced play from both sides, Andorra had pulled out a sizeable lead by the end of the first quarter, leading San Marino 31-12.

The Andorran scoring continued throughout the second quarter. Guillem Colom, coming off a 25 point performance last night against Ireland, bagged himself 10 points in the first half. San Marino continued to battle though, with youngster Tommaso Felici shooting 83% from the field and contributing 11 points and three rebounds in his 10 minutes on the floor. Alexis Bartolome and Marti Obiols Puig also made large contributions on the Andorran side, giving them a 53-32 lead at half-time.

San Marino outscored Andorra in the third 16-14, but Andorra still held the reigns going into the fourth quarter with a score of 67-48. Turnovers looked like they might derail the Andorran side, giving up 15 over the course of the game, but they ultimately came out on top. Tommaso Felici's performance is sure to have been a shining light in this defeat for San Marino, finishing the game with 17 points and nine rebounds. His points tally was bettered only by Alexis Bartolome and Guillem Colom of Andorra, with 20 each.

Andorra are up against Gibraltar at 4pm tomorrow, while San Marino face hosts Ireland at 7pm.
