Demons will look to get the weekend off to a flier as they host local rivals Ballincollig on Friday night. Ballincollig themselves have a double week ahead that could see them rise as high as second when the weekend is out of the way. Following the Cork derby on Friday, Demons will then make the journey up to Limerick to take on the promoted Limerick Celtics on Sunday afternoon.
Demons head coach O’Mahony said: “When your underperforming and inconsistent as we have been, a double header is a great opportunity to put it right. We did a lot of work on court this week and really trying to block external interruption. We are hoping we get our fans behind us this weekend and give them a performance to be proud of.”
Belfast Star are flying high at the summit of the table, however they were handed their first league defeat last weekend at the hands of St. Vincent’s. They managed to recover some momentum with a win against their closest challengers, Griffith College Éanna, to go to 7-1 for the season. This weekend, Belfast host UCD Marian on Saturday evening. Marian had a successful outing last weekend, with wins over Limerick Celtics in triple OT and then a big victory over an injury depleted Killester.
Despite a mixed bag of results last weekend for Killester, they still sit in third. Prior to the Marian defeat, Killester took home a win on Saturday against Energywise Ireland Neptune, even without their two pro players Robert Braswell and Baptiste Chazelas. This weekend, Killester make the trek to Kerry where they will play Garvey’s Tralee Warriors, who are coming off of two consecutive defeats with a combined deficit of four points between the two games. A win for Killester would solidify their space at the table for the title race. A victory for Tralee would get them back to a positive record and help keep their playoff aspirations alive. Both sides will also be looking to put in a marker before their quarter-final meeting in the Domino’s MSL National Cup in December.
Elsewhere in Kerry, Flexachem KCYMS have struggled for any form of momentum as of late. After winning their first two games, they have seen defeat in four of their last six games. New signing Joshua Phillips had a decent debut last time out with 11 points in a 27-point triumph for Killorglin. Killorglin sit level with Tralee in the table, with both sides on 4-4 records. This weekend, Flexachem KCYMS will play second placed Griffith College Éanna in Coláiste Éanna on Saturday night. Éanna broke even last weekend with a win over UCC Demons preceding a defeat to Belfast Star on Sunday.
Another side level with Tralee and Killorglin in the table is EJ Sligo All-Stars, who have rebounded from a 2-4 record to register two straight victories last weekend to leave them at 4-4 heading into this weekend when they host Ballincollig, which will be the Cork sides second fixture of the weekend. For Sligo, going 5-4 could see them enter the top six if other results go their way.
St. Vincent’s host Energywise Ireland Neptune in a game that sees Neptune on the hunt to get away from the foot of the Domino’s Men’s Super League table, where they currently sit at 1-7. Vincent’s had a massive weekend last time out, with wins over the league-leading Belfast Star and over promoted Limerick Celtics, to get to a 4-4 record through eight games.
