Maree picked up their eighth win of the season and sit at the summit of the Men’s Division One table after a 79-91 win over Malahide.
Isaiah Taylor scored a season-high 37 points for Maree, including five threes in a game where a 30-point opening quarter put Maree well on their way to a victory that has them at 8-2 for the season. The loss for Malahide is their ninth defeat of the season and their third in a row. They sit one win above the foot of the table from Team Northwest.
Umar Rachid and Joseph Coughlan combined for 40 points as Titans handed Team Northwest a tenth defeat of the season in a 64-79 victory for Titans. Thomas DiRienzo added another 29 points in what is turning out to be a very strong season for him. The win for Titans sees them break even at 5-5 through 10 games.
ND Audit Portlaoise Panthers slipped to a fourth loss of the season after Dublin Lions took home a 74-66 win from St. Mary’s Hall. Four Lions players scored in double digits as they led for the entire game. Michael Wallace led the way for Panthers with 21 but the loss now sees them potentially two games off the top spot. The win for Lions has them in third with a game in hand on Portlaoise in second.
Drogheda Wolves kept pace with the chasing pack with a convincing 20-point triumph over Killarney Cougars. Vernon Jackson dropped 24 points, whilst David Oputa had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Three of Cougars' starters made up 59 of Killarney’s 68 points, but only managed to take the lead on a handful of occasions in the first quarter. Drogheda are now on 7-3 along with Dublin Lions, Limerick Sport Eagles and Ulster University.
Ulster University missed the chance to join Maree at the top of the table after they lost to Limerick Sport Eagles 99-75 in UUJ on Saturday. Alex Carlisle and Ryan Leonard combined for 66 for the Eagles, whilst Prince Ebwea continued to impress for Ulster with 31 of his own points. Eagles led by as much as 30 during the game as they now solidify a spot in the pack of playoff hopefuls.
Maigh Cuilinn picked up their third win in a row with an 83-77 victory over Templeogue. Grant Olsson scored 23 along with 17 from John Hackett for the Galway side as they now reach 5-6, whilst Templeogue are 3-7 in 13th position.
SPK Utility Trust Lakers caught up with Moy Tolka Rovers by defeating them 85-66 to leave both sides at 6-4 for the season. Samuel Grant and Stephen Kelly combined for 48 points for Killarney, with the trio of Juwan Jones, Sean McManus and Stephen Commins having 46 together as Tolka missed the chance to go 7-3.
Carrick Cruisers secured a vital 77-70 win over Tipp Talons in the Phoenix Centre. The win for Carrick is their first in four games in the league. Tipp had brought it back into a one-possession game late in the fourth but couldn’t get their shot to fall when it mattered late on. Carrick are now 5-5 and sit in 11th whilst Tipp fall to seventh at 6-5.
In the Domino’s Women’s Division One, Clunetech Kilkenny Stars continued a firm start to life in National League life with a 65-62 win over fellow newcomers Dublin Raiders to get their fifth victory in seven games. American guard Stephanie Davis had 23 for Kilkenny on an efficient 9-15 shooting.. Dominique Mpesa had 22 for Raiders but unfortunately missed a game-tying attempt at the end of the game.
Limerick Celtics got back to winning ways with a 69-44 victory over Abbey Seals Dublin Lions. American guard Sidney Richards had her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and was flanked by an impressive swarm of play from Sabhbh Edwards Murphy and some of Celtics' younger players in Maebh Purtill and Madelyn Hartigan. The win puts Celtics back into the top four of the division with a record of 5-3.
Limerick Sport Huskies remain top of the Women’s Division One with a 72-61 win over Swords Thunder, who suffer their sixth loss of the season. Clara Gomez and Shelby Harmeyer continued the strong form that earned them Player of the Month nominations in November, with Gomez scoring 19 and Harmeyer having 17. Huskies are now at 6-2 in first with Swords sat in eighth.
Moy Tolka Rovers quickly recovered from a midweek defeat to Cleveland Rockets by squeezing past University of Galway Mystics. Tolka were down 58-59 with 30 seconds left on the clock, but five points from Ali Donohue in the last moments managed to get Tolka over their line to get their third Division One win in four games. The loss for Mystics has them at 3-5 for the season, just one win above the bottom three sides in the Domino’s Women’s Division One table.
