18 players selected to continue with Ireland U16 women's squad

Ireland U16 Women's head coach Paul O'Brien has confirmed a squad of 18 that will continue preparations for this summer's FIBA Youth EuroBasket following the Christmas period. 

Madelyn Hartigan is the only player within the squad who has experience at international level, making six apperances as part of O'Brien's squad which finished 10th at last summer's FIBA Youth EuroBasket at this age grade. Hartigan concluded the tournament averaging 1.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game at center. 

She's joined by three other players from her club Limerick Celtics - Abbey Nealon, Robyn Walsh and Laura Buckley. 13 clubs are represented in total from counties Antrim, Cork, Dublin, Kildare, Kerry, Laois, Monaghan, Westmeath and the aforementioned Limerick. 

Speaking after reducing his initial squad of 30, head coach Paul O'Brien said: 

"After a number of excellent training camps, I am really happy to be announcing this group of players to continue on our journey preparing for the FIBA Youth EuroBasket this summer.  It was such a tough decision to let go of the players that have been with us for the first phase of the programme and I want to thank them for their hard work and dedication with the squad.  This is an incredibly talented group of players and really look forward seeing how we progress over the next phase of the programme.”
