All you need to know: Ireland at the FIBA U17 3x3 Europe Cup

Ireland begin their challenge in the FIBA U17 Men’s 3x3 Europe Cup in Crete this afternoon with games against Slovenia and Romania in Pool C.

The top two sides in each of four pools will progress to the quarter-finals, which take place on Sunday. Head coach Paul Kelleher’s side are ranked 19th so will face a stiff task to reach that point with Slovenia ranked 3rd and Romania 6th in the tournament.

What are the pools?

Pool A: Germany, Spain and Croatia
Pool B: Latvia, Poland and Greece
Pool C: Slovenia, Romania and Ireland
Pool D: France, Serbia and Israel

Germany enter the competition as favourites to retain their title along with Latvia and Slovenia.

Ireland reached the FIBA U17 3x3 Europe Cup finals after finishing 4th overall in a qualifying tournament in France earlier this year. We were defeated 21-14 by eventual winners Poland before beating Georgia 18-11 and Austria 11-7 to secure a spot at the event in Heraklion.

Ireland Squad:

Joshua Osayanrhion (Garvey’s Tralee Warriors)

Victor Okojie (BC Tauras)

Viktor Tashev (Titans BC)
