Basketball Ireland together with the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) are delighted to announce that we will be running our fourth very successful and impactful Women in Sport Leadership Programme (WISL) in January 2025. Applications are now invited from female coaches, officials, athletes, volunteers and staff in the basketball community who are over 18 years of age.
The aim of this course is to provide training, guidance and expertise to support women to thrive in leadership positions in sport at all levels. The course is delivered online via zoom over five Tuesday evenings weekly, commencing January 28th 19.00-20.30 and a final session in person in Dublin on Saturday 8th March. Half of the participants will be from the basketball community and half from IWA. This inclusive course has been specifically designed for women in sport to step up at their specific level, break down any barriers that may be holding them back and really support them on their personal leadership journey.
Lisa Clancy and Sarah O'Shea have been rolling out a double award-winning Women in Sport Leadership (WISL) programme in Ireland since 2020, have run the European FIBA WISL programme in 2023 and will lead on the FIBA WISL again in 2025. They bring their own extensive experience to the programme from their unique sporting experience in their senior professional and voluntary positions in Ireland and abroad. The overall Women in Leadership course has proved to be hugely successful with over 500 participants completing the course across over 50 different sporting organisations including participants from all over Ireland and Europe. Participants have included club members, athletes, coaches, volunteers, board members and support personnel from a variety of backgrounds within Clubs, National Governing Bodies and Local Sports Partnerships.
The course is designed to be an enjoyable experience for participants to learn in a relaxed supportive environment from two internationally experienced sporting leaders at a and to build a strong network into the future. It is a practical interactive course delivered over zoom and in person with participants expected to fully engage during the sessions and in various breakout groups as part of their learning experience. There is some group and individual exercises during the programme and the size of the class is limited to ensure everyone has the opportunity to fully engage and reach their full potential.
"The success of our past Basketball Ireland/Irish Wheelchair Association Women in Sport Leadership programmes lies in the real commitment to inclusivity, creating spaces where females with and without disabilities can learn, lead and thrive together. By embracing diverse perspectives, we have empowered participants to step up in a really supportive and collaborative sporting environment to help them in their future leadership journey." – Lisa Clancy
Participants will also receive a one-on-one coaching session from qualified coaches and support in producing their own Personal Development Plan. Modules will also include inputs from a variety of very experienced external speakers from across the disability and basketball sporting community who will engage on their own personal leadership experiences, providing valuable lessons to participants. On finishing the course, participants will then become a vital member of a strong network of other female leaders in the Basketball Ireland community and help in shaping our future.
Basketball Ireland are delighted to be running this fully inclusive course so please apply and share and encourage other females to apply now.
