Basketball Ireland joins FIBA's Shooter project to improve digital tools and sustainability

Representatives from Basketball Ireland were presented as the Catalan Basketball Federation (FCBQ) hosted the initial kick off meeting for the Shooter project, on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 February in Barcelona. The SHOOTER project, which is part of the European Commission's new Erasmus+ Sport call , is led by the FCBQ and includes the federations of Ireland, Bulgaria and Kosovo and Optimal Way (technological developer) as project partners.

'SHOOTER' is a novel program at the European level designed by the FCBQ Promotion department, together with Optimal Way, which aims to provide European basketball federations with digital tools and skills to make their management more professional, efficient and environmentally sustainable.

Grants and Participation Manager Paul Carr expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating:

"Basketball Ireland is thrilled to collaborate once again with the Catalan Basketball Federation on another Erasmus project. Through our European initiatives—such as Eurostep with FIBA and Promise with the Catalan Federation—we have gained valuable insights that have helped shape our approach. In recent years, we have made significant strides in digitizing the sport, but we remain eager to explore new areas for growth. The Shooter project presents an exciting opportunity to continue that progress and enhance our impact even further."

Alignment with Erasmus+ priorities and EU policies

'SHOOTER'  is fully aligned with the following cross-cutting priority of Erasmus+ Sport: "Addressing digital transformation by developing digital readiness, resilience and capacity", while contributing to the specific priority on good governance in sport.

This will be the second project Basketball Ireland has partnered with FCBQ project to receive support from the European Commission after the success of the pioneering  'PROMISE' program , selected as a beneficiary of the 2022 call for the Erasmus+ Sport program, and which seeks to promote the inclusion and participation of girls and women in the world of basketball at different levels.

From the Catalan Basketball Federation  "we make a very positive assessment of this European support for the technological development of our federation which can now be exported to other European federations"  according to its manager  Toti Mumbrú , who said "I am excited about this second European project; 'PROMISE' has helped us to organize ourselves internally and learn how we should move and work with our partners".  Regarding the new 'SHOOTER' program,  Mumbrú  assures that  "it will position us at the level of technological management in the international sports field: we have been working on the technological modernization of the Federation for years and now we feel strong to seek synergies and new professional challenges. We are very happy with the federation team for the commitment and especially with our technological partner Optimal Way and grateful for the financing".
