Basketball Ireland and Galway Sports Partnership are delighted to announce the establishment of a new basketball club on Inis Mór (Inishmore).
The “Inishmore Celts” will benefit from Basketball Ireland's new club innovation grant, becoming the first basketball club to be set up on the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland. The club will be open to all age groups.
"It's fantastic to see a club being established on Inis Mór," said Basketball Ireland's Development Officer for Galway. "Basketball always has community at its core and I'm just delighted that all the hard work taking place behind the scenes by both the residents, Galway Sports Partnership and Basketball Ireland is coming to fruition."
Basketball Ireland's Head of Development Ciaran O'Sullivan added: "This is a strong example of the power of the club innovation grant to help bring basketball to new communities in all areas of the island of Ireland. I'd like to thank Galway Sports Partnership for their help in getting Inishmore Celts off the ground, our Development Officer for Galway, Mike Murray and most of all, the local community in Inis Mór. I look forward to seeing how the club develops. "
