Promise Project launches interactive MOOC platform

Basketball Ireland is encouraging all stakeholders to check out the launch of a new MOOC platform designed by the Promise Project.

The Promise programme is a EU project led by the Catalan Basketball Federation with the support of Basketball Ireland and the basketball federations of Kosovo, Portugal, and Bulgaria, as well as the University of Ramon Llull and Ligue Basket Nouvelle Aquitaine.

The project aims to take a step forward for women in basketball through the mentorship programme aimed at coaches and referees. The new MOOC platform is an innovative learning platform that allows users to educate themselves about several different topics that affect women's participation in sport from players, coaches, referees, board members, and media coverage.

What can you learn?

• Training in the gender perspective and learning about the implications that gender has in the world of basketball.
• How to incorporate the gender perspective in the management and organization of basketball clubs and committees.
• The platform offers a space to debate, exchange opinions and experiences, and to be in contact with other people from the basketball community.
• Learn how we can promote equality through basketball.
• Specific training for female referees, coaches, players, managers and media.

Basketball Ireland has been working with the Promise Project for a number of months and have already launched a mentorship programme for female coaches and referees, as well taken part in a research study on women in basketball. This MOOC platform will now be another great tool that can be used to support women in basketball.
