Basketball Ireland issues update on indoor sport

All stakeholders eager to be given date for resumption.

Basketball Ireland is in ongoing dialogue with Sport Ireland and the government’s Sport Expert Group to work with them on the return of our sport. We understand that all stakeholders in the game – clubs, players, officials, volunteers and supporters - are eager to be given a date for resumption.

Basketball Ireland is also meeting with the heads of committees in our game on Monday to discuss the best way to move forward and to listen to any concerns that people in our game may have.

Basketball Ireland interim CEO Paddy Boyd said:

“We are aware of the frustrations that the basketball community are feeling and desire for a resumption pathway to be outlined. Basketball Ireland is in discussions with Sport Ireland to find a route back for our sport. We, along with other indoor sports, are also stating our case through the Federation of Irish Sport, who are liaising with the government’s Sport Expert Group.

“With Covid-19 numbers still high, there is a reticence from government to allow indoor sport to open up fully yet, with legislative barriers also in place, but we hope that these can be worked through in due course and that better days are to come for our sport.”
