Ireland beaten by Romania 69-37 at U16 Women's European Challengers

Romania meanwhile hoped to get their second win of the tournament. They beat Luxembourg on the opening night, but then lost the next two, including close a 55-54 loss against Slovakia on Friday.

Ireland opened the scoring through a Caitlin Gloeckner jump shot, but Romania took the lead midway through the first quarter with a pair of Maria Stanescu free-throws. The teams battled throughout the first but Romania held a narrow lead at the end of the quarter, 17-13.

The second quarter saw Romania open up their lead, and despite Ireland getting to within three at one stage, Romania had gained a 37-24 advantage by half time. The Romanian side continued to show their scoring prowess through the third, and by the end of the quarter had a 28 point advantage, with the scoreline sitting at 60-32.

The fourth quarter was a low scoring affair, with Romania outscoring Ireland just 9-5. The game finished at 69-37 in favour of Romania, as Sorina Oinaru led her team in scoring with 22 points and six rebounds. Emma Gribben again impressed for Ireland leading her team with 8 points and 6 rebounds.
