U18 training and matches - Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Does an U18 have to produce a COVID cert to train?              

A: Yes if available, only through their parents or guardian. This information should only to be used to establish if the use of pods are applicable or not.

Q2: Does an U18 have to produce a COVID Cert to play a game?

A: No, but they should be advised before going to the game, if you show up to play you agree that you are symptom-free, have not got a positive result from a HSE PCR COVID test, or are waiting for PCR COVID test results from the HSE. (See point 9)

Q3: Can an U18 attend a game on their own without an adult?    

A: Yes, provided that they comply with the Government requirements of:

“Unaccompanied minors (children under 18 years old) attending indoor sporting events in a spectating capacity are required to be fully vaccinated or recovered to attend events and must show a COVID-19 pass. They must also have photo ID to prove that the COVID-19 Pass relates to them.

Please keep child safety in mind.

Q4: If attending a game with an adult do they have to have a COVID Cert?                     

A: No, accompanied minors (i.e. children under 18 years old, accompanied with a fully vaccinated/proof of immunity adult) attending indoor sporting events in a spectating capacity are not required to be fully vaccinated, or recovered, to attend events and do not need to show a COVID-19 pass.

Q5: If there are vaccinated and unvaccinated players (no matter what their ages are) at a training session do they have to train in pods of 6?           

A: Yes

Q6: If they play a scrimmage game as part of training do they have to stay in a pod?    

A: No, The current “pod of six” system can be adjusted to allow for indoor games and competition activities according to the ordinary rules and limits of the sport concerned. i.e. 5v5 and team games.

Q7: Does an over 18 coach have to have a COVID Cert to coach at a game?

A: Yes, the use of the EU Digital COVID Certificate (vaccine or recovery certificate) will be required for accessing indoor sporting activities and events. (18’s and older, as per government guidelines)

Q8: Do all over 18 players, coaches, table officials, commissioners, etc. have to have a COVID Cert to attend a game?          

A: Yes, the use of the EU Digital COVID Certificate (vaccine or recovery certificate) will be required for accessing indoor sporting activities and events. (18s and older, as per government guidelines)

Q9: Do we have to use the COVID app for training sessions?

No, but COVID checks should be done before getting to training, or before entry.

i.e. A message before training to the parents to say:

“By agreeing to attend training you agree that you son/daughter has not been told they are a close contact, are not awaiting a HSC PCR COVID test, or results of a PCR COVID test from the HSE, have not received a positive result from a HSE PCR COVID test, and are not symptomatic.”

Q10: Do we have to use COVID App for games?

A: No, not at under 18 levels.

Q11: Do we have to have the details of all of those attending training to enable contract tracing?

A: Yes, name and number. In the case of under 18s contact is with the parent or guardian.

Q12: Do we have to have the details of all of those attending a game to enable contact tracing?

A: Yes, name and number.
