Basketball Ireland would like to congratulate and welcome Susan Johnston as the newest appointee to the Basketball Ireland Board of Directors.
Johnston is a former scientist now management consultant with Deloitte UK and has extensive experience working with clients across the pharmaceutical industry and public sector. With a specific focus in R&D innovation, Johnston has advised clients on strategy development, operating model design and supported large scale programme implementation.
Johnston has been involved with basketball for most of her life, primarily as a player for Phoenix Basketball Club, but also as a coach, table official and former board member of Basketball Northern Ireland.
Upon her appointment, Johnston spoke positively on the status of basketball in Ireland at the moment.
"I'm delighted to be joining the board during an exciting period of change for Basketball Ireland; with the return of our senior teams to FIBA competition, the appointment of our new CEO and seeing the wider basketball community return to the sport after missing a full season, I think there is a real growth opportunity for the organisation and I'm excited to be a part of it" commented Johnston.
Paul McDevitt, Chairperson of the BI Board of Directors, hails the professional experience that Johnston will bring to the board, in addition to her basketball experience.
"We are delighted to have somebody of Susan’s capabilities on the board. She will bring both her professional experience and her basketball experience to the role. We are undergoing a period of change in Irish basketball, and having somebody of the Susan's calibre to help us through that change is vital" voiced McDevitt.
