Geaney, Walsh and Reidy elected to Basketball Ireland Board at AGM

Dolores Geaney, Theresa Walsh and PJ Reidy have been elected to the Board of Basketball Ireland, following a vote at the 2025 Basketball Ireland AGM, which took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blanchardstown on Saturday (10th May).

Both Geaney and Walsh were re-elected, while former Basketball Ireland president PJ Reidy replaces former Basketball Ireland chairperson Paul McDevitt, who was ineligible to be re-elected having served his full term.

Basketball Ireland chairperson, Prof. Seamas Donnelly, said: “I’d like to congratulate Dolores, Theresa and PJ on their election to the Board. All three have a vast array of professional skills, along with an in-depth knowledge of the sport.”

Speaking at the AGM, Donnelly added: “The 2025 AGM highlighted a number of positive markers for Basketball Ireland, including a 9% annual growth of our registered membership, which represents a 38% increase since 2019/20. There are was also a 3% increase in the number of schools, to 965. The last year has also seen planning permission granted for the National Basketball Arena, while we’ve also welcomed significant commercial partners -Nike, AIG and Domino’s Pizza.”

Basketball Ireland CEO, John Feehan stated: “Congratulations to Dolores, Theresa and PJ, I look forward to working with them on the Board. They have contributed so much to the sport, on and off the court, aligned their industry expertise, which will be invaluable as we continue to grow the sport.”

Feehan added: “The AGM is an opportunity to reflect on a really successful year for Basketball Ireland. The strides we’re making was acknowledged by the recent shortlisting for NGB of the Year for the upcoming 2025 Irish Sport Industry Awards and the sport can look ahead in a very positive light.”
