As the Domino’s Women’s Super League winds down, there is plenty of movement that could occur in the final two weeks. This weekend, Killester travel to Cavan to face the Eagles as they look to move towards the top of the table, SETU Waterford Wildcats head to Cork to face Catalyst Fr. Mathews looking to close in on the top four, UCC Glanmire host Utility Trust St. Pauls Killarney in a battle at the top of the table, FloMAX Liffey Celtics will take on Midlands Park Portlaoise Panthers as they try to move up in the table ahead of the playoffs and Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell welcome Trinity Meteors in a battle of fourth against sixth.

Killester will head to take on McEvoy’s Cavan Eagles with the aim of recovering from the defeat at the hands of Killarney last weekend, which saw them fall a game behind Killarney at the top. The loss for Killester was their first in five games after four straight wins. A win for them could see them return to being level at the top pending the result for Killarney on Sunday. Head coach Mark Grennell is wary of the challenge possessed by the promoted side.
Speaking about Killester’s chances this weekend, Grennell said “Cavan are a very good side, we look forward to the challenge they pose and our first trip to their top class facility. Obviously, last week went against us in the end, but we are very happy with a lot of what we did in the game. Two more game weeks to fine tune things and get the improvements right where they are needed”.
For Eagles, two losses on the bounce has seen them now fall behind in the race for higher seeding in the playoffs. They currently sit in eighth position, one win away from both Meteors and Celtics in the table.
UCC Glanmire and Utility Trust St. Pauls Killarney will play on Sunday in a game of third against first. League leaders Killarney made it eight wins in a row last weekend with a 72-66 win over Killester. Killarney head coach James Fleming says that his side are ready to take revenge after the defeat against Glanmire last time out.
Fleming said “ We are really excited about the next few games. We got a hiding from Glanmire back in December, so we will have to be ready from the get go. We have a few injuries and we will be missing our dual stars, both who were outstanding last weekend/ So, it is about giving a good performance”.
Sitting in third, Glanmire will be looking to tighten the race for the top spot with a win this weekend. A win in overtime against Trinity Meteors last weekend marked three wins in their last four games. A win this weekend would bring them to 12-5, and possibly bring them level with Killester in second.
Brunell have enjoyed two wins in the last two weeks over the bottom two sides in Portlaoise and Fr. Mathews. This weekend, they welcome sixth-place Trinity Meteors, who will be looking to regain some momentum after last weekend’s defeat to Glanmire. Brunell are currently in fourth, meaning a win this weekend could potentially all but confirm the final home court playoff spot in the table.
Meteors are currently on a winless run of three games after defeats against the top three of Killarney, Killester and Glanmire. The fixture doesn’t get any more generous as they follow up three games against the top three, with a game against fourth-spot Brunell. A win would potentially lift Meteors into the top five, depending on how Wildcats fare this weekend.
SETU Waterford Wildcats head to Cork this weekend to face the winless Catalyst Fr. Mathews. Wildcats are enjoying a three-game winning run after wins over Eagles, Glanmire and the Panthers has put them into fifth place. Wildcats performances have been driven by the impressive games of Irish international Sarah Hickey, who is currently averaging almost 23 points and just over 11 rebounds for Wildcats this season.
Fr. Mathews remain winless this season at 0-16. With relegation all but confirmed, a win this weekend will be more for the terms of pride. Mathews shining light has been Laila Blair, who continues to lead the league in scoring with 396 points cored, also holding an average of almost 25 points per game.
Midlands Park Portlaoise Panthers could mathematically confirm survival in the Domino’s Women’s Super League this weekend, should they pick up a victory over FloMAX Liffey Celtics on Saturday. Panthers have picked up just two victories all season, but will be looking to end the season strong with two games to go.
For Celtics, Hilary Netsiyanwa’s side are in seventh with a record of 8-8 for the season. A win over Panthers this weekend could see them go level with Wildcats in fifth, which could prove valuable at the end of the season as the playoff fixtures begin.
All games this weekend in the Domino’s Women’s Super League will be broadcast live and exclusively on BITV.
