Ireland U18 Women's head coach selects squad of 18 for 2024/25 season

Ireland U18 women's head coach Tommy O'Mahony has selected a panel of 18 players to work with at the outset of the 2024/25 international season. 

Two players who featured for O'Mahony at this summer's FIBA U18 Women's Youth EuroBasket remain eligible for selection and return. Kira Lynch (Meteors BC) and Faye McDonnell (Kilkenny Stars) were among the roster which finished in 9th position earlier this summer with a 5-2 record in the tournament, while the majority of the remainder of the group have previously played for Ireland at U16 level or have come throught the Basketball Ireland U17 Academy programme. 

Players make the grade from seven counties, Dublin, Cork, Laois, Kilkenny, Kerry, Limerick and Kildare. Meteors BC are the club with the highest number of selections with four. They are closely followed by Templeogue BC, who send three players. Four players have yet to be capped at underage level,  Anna Kate Nealon (Limerick Celtics), Caoimhe Brophy (Portlaoise Panthers), Grace Miley (Templeogue BC) and Lena Zydek (CD MagecTías). 

Speaking following the announcement of his squad, head coach Tommy O'Mahony said: 

“After much deliberation, we are delighted to announce a very talented squad. We have a lot of work to do especially with the FIBA Youth EuroBasket being so early this year, but we are very eager to get started. We have numerous sessions over the next few months that will set the foundation of our European journey.”
