Geaney has been involved in basketball since school, as a player, coach and referee and subsequently in club basketball in Galway and Dublin in a player and management capacity.
Professionally, Geaney has worked in the financial services industry for over 25 years, at company director and C-suite level, focusing on governance, strategy, integration, change management, and regulation. Her experience ranges from Irish financial services companies, to global US entities.
Geaney’s education includes a Bachelors of Financial Services from UCD and a Diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors. She is also a Certified Bank Director, as well as a qualified member of the Institute of Internal Auditors.
Speaking about on her appointment to the Board, Geaney said:
“I’m really excited to be joining the Board of Basketball Ireland. I am passionate about basketball and believe that sport is an important avenue for supporting participation in society and community for all. Sport builds confidence in young people, while developing skills at an individual and team level.”
Basketball Ireland Chairman, Paul McDevitt, added:
“I’m delighted that Dolores has joined the Board of Basketball Ireland. She’s a basketball person, who has been involved in so many facets of our game. Coupled with her extensive professional experience, she is a great addition to the Board.”
