As with the Basketball Ireland National Camp, the level of coaching staff will be first rate, with the coaching staff to be announced In the coming weeks. The staff will be made up of the best Irish 3x3 coaches and players, along with some coaches from abroad bringing their added experience and knowledge to the camp.
Now that 3x3 Basketball is a full Olympic sport we aim to give as many players as possible the chance to play this fast, exciting format and learn more about the game. The camp is aimed at players looking to improve their individual skill levels and we will be using the 3x3 format in game play to increase the skills learning, as well as to teach the tactical side of this format of the game. No prior experience of 3x3 basketball is required.
Even though we are running this camp as a 3x3 camp, a lot of the focus will be on individual skill development, which will bring improvements in your game for all formats and give you some skill development drills that players can practice throughout the summer, in order to be ready for the new regular season in September.
Similar to the Basketball Ireland National Camp there will still be a focus on enjoyment , meeting new friends and skill development, that will make the camp a great experience for anybody with a keen interest in basketball.
Basketball Ireland Senior Technical Officer, Matt Hall, said: “This is hugely exciting and something we have wanted to do for a number of years. Last summer saw a big leap in the number of players around the country taking part in 3x3 competitions and means basketball is now a year-round sport. This summer Basketball Ireland will be running even more 3x3 tournaments, both indoors and outdoors, but we really want to encourage any group or individual with an interest to set up their own tournaments around the country. We have staff willing to help by providing the resources and knowledge of how to set up tournaments using Fiba’s specialised free 3x3 tournament event maker. This camp will hopefully be the first of many as we aim to improve the knowledge around this format of the game with the ultimate goal of Olympic qualification.”
