The first Semi-Final of the InsureMyHouse.ie U18 Women’s National Cup kicked off with East Cavan Eagles taking on Meteors at the Gurranabraher Credit Union Arena, an end-to-end game was played out which seen Meteors secure a 70-69 win.
A narrow 1st quarter was played out with Meteors gaining a one-point advantage heading into the 2nd quarter.
Meteors managed to widen their advantage in the 2nd quarter, bringing a 43-34 advantage into the half-time break, with both Meteors captain & Irish international Grace Prenter and Emma Tolan at the forefront of the scoring.
A narrow game throughout, the Cavan side managed to build up a solid lead in the last five minutes but a rally from Meteors in the remaining two minutes enabled a comeback to leave themselves with a chance in the remaining few minutes in the game.
With 45 seconds left on the clock, only two points separated the sides.
Meteors captain Grace Prenter found herself with two shots at a free throw with 6 seconds left on the clock with her side two points down – both were converted which proved to be the difference to win the game for Meteors.
