Olympics 3x3: where and when to watch in Ireland

2020 Tokyo Olympics 3x3

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics began on Friday 23rd July, with 3x3 making it's senior debut at the Olympics this year. The 3x3 events began on Saturday 24th July with the pool games. These pool stage games finish tomorrow (Tuesday 27th July), with the quarter-final stages getting underway directly afterwards. The semi-finals, bronze-medal games and finals all take place on Wednesday 28th July. For a full schedule of game times, see below or head to the dedicated FIBA web page.

Who is competing

Men's 3x3 pool
Serbia, Russian Olympic Federation, China, Japan, Poland, Netherlands, Latvia, Belgium

Women's 3x3 pool
Russian Olympic Federation, China, Mongolia, Romania, USA, France, Japan, Italy

Olympic 3x3 Format
Both the women's and men's categories are being contested by eight different countries (above). Each team plays every other team at the group stage. The top two teams (1st and 2nd) at the end of the group stage qualify straight into the semi-finals. the teams who finished 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th at the group stage all progress to the quarter-finals.

Where to watch
Eurosport are broadcasting all of the 3x3 and 5 on 5 from Tokyo, and it is available to Sky TV customers and other tv subscriptions. It is also available online with an pass costing €6.99 for a month. The subscription can be cancelled after one month if you only wish to subscribe for the duration of the Olympics. Discovery+ is another option, and costs €5.99/€6.99 per month, or there is a special offer currently for a year subscription which costs €29.99.  Discovery+ is also free to SKY Q customers.

When to watch
Tokyo's time-zone (GMT +9) puts them eight hours ahead of Ireland, so all times found on the FIBA website and Olympic website must be subtracted from to find the tip-off times for Ireland. Here is a list of the key fixtures in Irish time (GMT +1). More detailed fixtures can be found on the FIBA and Olympics sites.
