Killester go back joint-top of Men’s Super League with win at Flexachem KCYMS

Killester moved back to joint top of the Men’s Super League thanks to a narrow 86-83 win at Flexachem KCYMS on Bank Holiday Monday. Energywise Ireland Neptune also claimed an impressive road scalp at defending champions Griffith College Éanna, winning 83-76, while Dublin derby honours went to UCD Marian, who defeated Templeogue 103-81.

Killester moved to a 14-3 record and level on points with UCC Demons (14-4) at the top of the Men’s Super League. The Dublin club, who slipped to a 89-80 defeat at Irish Guide Dogs Ballincollig @MTU on Saturday, responded with victory at Flexachem KCYMS. Jonny Grennell’s side trailed 53-46 at half-time, but a strong third quarter - where they outscored their opponents 28-15 - turned the game in their favour, before grinding out a three-point win, 86-83. Their Americans Isiah Dasher and Kason Harrell were to the fore, with 28 and 25 points respectively.

A strong opening half from Energywise Ireland Neptune, saw them hold a 14-point lead, 46-32, at the break against Griffith College Éanna. The Cork side withstood a third quarter fightback from Éanna, before securing an 83-76 win. Chancellor D’Cameron Calhoun-Hunter grabbed 25 points, while Darragh O’Sullivan was among those who impressed for the victors with 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

UCD Marian joined Neptune on nine wins, thanks to a 103-81 win over Templeogue. The teams were level at 69-69 with two minutes to go in the third and it was UCD Marian ahead by four going into the final quarter, 75-71 up. The home side pulled away in the fourth, James Connaire grabbing 11 points and four rebounds in the quarter alone. Jonathan Jean top scored for UCD Marian, finishing on 26 points, along with eight assists, seven steals and five turnovers, as they picked up their second win of the weekend, following a 89-79 win at EJ Sligo All-Stars on Saturday.

In Men’s Division One, ND Audit Portlaoise Panthers suffered their first league defeat of the season, losing 100-95 at home to Drogheda Wolves. Christian Simmons and Denzel Ebose top scored for the winners, with 24 and 23 points. It was Drogheda Wolves’ second win of the Bank Holiday, while Carrick Cruisers and Maigh Cuilinn also made it two from two. Carrick Cruisers had a 77-56 home success over Team NorthWest and Maigh Cuilinn defeated Scotts Lakers Killarney 65-47. In the late game Tipp Talons won 90-82 at Killarney Cougars.
