Killester put in a dominant performance to take home their sixth win of the season with a 69-55 triumph over Utility Trust St. Paul's Killarney in Aura on Saturday.
Michelle Clarke and Samantha Haiby combined for 46 of Killester’s 69 points as the Dublin side led by as much as 18 in Kerry as they secured a victory that took them to 6-1 for the season. For St. Paul's, the loss has them in second at 5-2; however, third-placed Trinity Meteors have a game in hand on them, which will take place on Sunday against UCC Glanmire.
FloMAX Liffey Celtics managed to secure their second victory of the season with a 76-73 win over McEvoy’s Cavan Eagles. Free throws in the final seconds from Destinee Bursch managed to secure the victory for Liffey after three stellar showings from Brooke Kane with 24, Sorcha Tiernan with 17 and 11 rebounds, and Kane, who also had 17 points to her name. For Cavan, it will feel like an opportunity missed after getting their first win on the road last week. The loss sees them fall to 3-4 and leaves them in sixth place. For Liffey, they rise to eighth, with just their second win of the season seeing them overtake Portlaoise Panthers.
SETU Waterford Wildcats took home the victory over Midlands Park Portlaoise Panthers, 75-70, a game that was unfortunately marred by a serious injury to Irish international Sarah Hickey in the third quarter. Alyssa Frescas led the game with 30 points, accompanied by 17 points from Tiarra Brown, to ensure that Waterford earned the win after gaining a 16-point lead midway through the second quarter. For Panthers, Alyssa Velles and Jessica Fressle scored 24 and 18, respectively. However, it wasn’t to be for the Portlaoise side as they now fall to ninth with a 1-6 record.
We have two games in the Domino’s Women’s Super League on Sunday afternoon, with UCC Glanmire looking to stop the momentum of third-placed Trinity Meteors, who are looking to go joint-top with Killester. Elsewhere, Catalyst Fr. Mathews will continue their hunt for their first win of the season as they face Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell, who will look to enhance their title-challenging status further, as they will look to move to a 5-2 record with a victory live on BITV.
