San Marino beat Gibraltar 92-82 on final day of FIBA European Championship for Small Countries

The teams went blow for blow in the first, with Gibraltar holding a slight advantage until San Marino’s Giacomo Pasolini entered the game and began running the floor for his side. A late quarter surge saw San Marino end the quarter with a one point advantage, with the score at 26-25.

Gibraltar took the lead early in the second and had amassed an 8 point advantage by half time, in part due to a dominant offensive performance from Miguel Ortega who put up nine points and four assists in the quarter. Thomas Yome and Sam Buxton also contributed heavily through the first half with 17 and 14 points respectively. The second half started with the score at 50-42 in favour of Gibraltar, but San Marino battled hard, and a dunk from Ygor Biordi tied the game. San Marino had found their form and pulled out a 74-65 lead at the end of the quarter.

San Marino continued their scoring run into the start of the 4th quarter. A close fought quarter resulted ended with San Marino coming out on top and claiming their first victory of the tournament. With a final scoreline of 92-82, the game saw a dominant offensive performance from San Marino’s Gioele Moretti who contributed 23 points and four assists.

This game ended the tournament for both teams, and left Gibraltar in fifth position in the standings, and San Marino in fourth overall.
