February's MissQuote.ie and InsureMyVan.ie Super League and Division One 'Player of the Month' and 'Coach of The Month' awards have been decided.
De'Ondre Jackson picks up his second monthly award of the campaign, having also received a golden ball in November. Jackson's consistency has seen him land in the top three in voting on multiple occassions. The Belfast Star man is averaging 24.8 points and 5 rebounds through 16 games, while shooting 33% from beyond the arc as his side top the North Conference, securing the top seed for the post-season. Kendall Jacks has been instrumental in Flexachem KYCMS' revival in recent weeks and takes second spot while Tahmir Gadsen of South Conference table toppers Maree BC finished in third. Darren McGovern of Griffith College Éanna scoops his second Coach Of The Month award, with his team sitting second in the North Conference.
Ariel Johnson showed her class throughout February, but her most recent 46 point display against University of Galway Mystics might have been the tipping point to see her take the honours over Killester's Claire Melia. Johnson has similar stats to Jackson through 16 games. She's contributing 23.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and shooting 34% from range for Catalyst Fr.Mathews as they sit 8-8 in the MissQuote.ie Super League. Claire Melia is beginning to show her best form at the business end of the season as she usually does and picked up second place in the voting, while the excellently named Cheah Real-Whitsett of The Address UCC Glanmire is acknowledged in third for her strong showings recently. Mark Grennell is bestowed with another Coach Of The Month award as he maintains Killester's push for a MissQuote.ie Super League title to add to their cup success from a year ago.
The mid-season addition of Leondre Washington has proved fruitful for St. Pauls Killarney, as they look to maintain a playoff berth in the InsureMyVan.ie Division One South Conference. The shooting guard is averaging a whopping 38.5 points per outing over a six game stretch. Though the Kerry side are 3-3 in those games, they have close defeats to fellow playoff hopefuls Portlaoise Panthers and Limerick Celtics in that time. Ravel Moody has been consistent for Portlaoise Panthers all season, earning him top three recognition on several occassions and he once again finishes in second place in the voting, while Idris Joyner of SETU Waterford Vikings is third. UCD Marian head coach Ioannis Liapakis makes it back to back Coach of the Month awards for the first time this season.
iSecure Swords Thunder secured the North Conference title this month, with thanks in no small part to Jensen Caretti. Caretti has taken her game to the next level in February, averaging a double-double (points-rebounds) when her side needed her most. On the year her stat line reads, 21.6 points per game, 10.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists. Her tandem with Jasmine Walker has been among the best in the MissQuote.ie Division One all season and they will be high in confidence heading into the playoffs this weekend. Sofia Paska has been dominant at times throughout the season for South Conference leaders St. Pauls Killarney and takes second place in the voting, with Alisha Lewis of Templeogue in third. St. Pauls Killarney head coach James Fleming picks up the coaching gong with his team on an eight game heater.
